Getty Gallery: 1/5 Christopher Wallace, aka The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie, or Biggie Smalls, was killed by an unknown drive-by assassin on March 9, 1997, in Los Angeles. To this day, his murderer remains unsolved but conspiracy theories pervade. The theories generally link Wallace to the murder of Tupac Shakur, because of the similarities in the drive-by shootings and the involvement of Shakur and Wallace in the hip hop rivalry between the East Coast and West Coast. Wallace was from Brooklyn and his label, Bad Boy Records, was New York-based. Tupac was also from New York but his label, Death Row Records, was Los Angeles-based.
The feuding labels fueled the East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry from 1991 to 1997. Some speculate that the murder of Wallace was connected to the rivalry. However, this is just speculation. Other theories that pervade include CIA involvement, an LAPD cover-up, and police collaboration with Marion 'Suge' Knight, Death Row label owner.
