Daniel Craig has been cast in Knives Out, a new film written and directed by 's Rian Johnson. News of Craig's casting comes amid concerns over the future of his next James Bond film, which was set to hit cinemas in November 2019 but after the departure of its director Danny Boyle. Boyle had planned to begin work on the as-yet-untitled film in December. However, as no replacement for the Trainspotting director has been announced, and with Craig now set to begin production on Knives Out in November, a 2019 release for the next Bond film looks increasingly unlikely. Knives Out has been described as a 'murder mystery' in the vein of Johnson's acclaimed 2005 film Brick, in which Craig will star as a detective working to solve the case. The film is expected to spark a bidding war between distributors at this month's Toronto International Film Festival. Speaking to, Johnson said the film was inspired by his long-held admiration for Agatha Christie's whodunits, and was an attempt to create a Poirot-style locked-room mystery of his own.
